The Traditional Method

  1. Fill Gourd 2/3 full with the loose-leaf yerba mate
  2. cover with hand and shake
  3. tilt to 45 angle
  4. add room temp water to empty side, about half way up
  5. while it soaks that water up, heat water to brand and personal preference (see this Post)
  6. pour water into empty side, leaving mound of dry leaves
  7. let steep & cool for a few minutes
  8. drink completely, slurping sounds are good, get every last drop
  9. refill and repeat, passing to the next person if in a group
